There is no rhetoric or posturing anymore, should we be concerned?
On Friday 19th April Chinese President Xi Jinping announced the formation of the Information Support Force. A strategic branch of the People’s Liberation Army, with a simple aim, to fight and win wars.
The director of the FBI has said several times that China already has a bigger hacking program than every other major nation combined……….If each one of the FBI’s cyber agents and intelligence analysts focused on China exclusively, Chinese hackers would still outnumber our cyber personnel by at least 50 to 1.
With the amount of money China is spending on its military, the entrenchment of Chinese state actors across other nation state Critical National Infrastructure (CN)systems (FBI statement), and the generally poor maturity of cybersecurity risk management of many public and private sector companies. One wonders the effect of concentrating Chinas cybersecurity capabilities into a single force?
