There’s a quick answer to the question of UK cyber resilience. It comes from the December 2023 UK parliamentary 73 page report, ‘A hostage to fortune: ransomware and UK national security’

There is a high risk that the Government will face a catastrophic ransomware attack at any moment, and that its planning will be found lacking.

One is sure the British stiff upper lip will get us by. But our lack of cybersecurity, risk management and failure to keep pace with our allies approach to cyber. Has left the UK exposed to the threat posed by cyber.

The report highlights many areas where the UK lacks even the basic cybersecurity cultural, organisational, governance, legal and regulatory frameworks to protect CNI.

Unfortunately cybersecurity has not kept pace with our digital dependancy, market forces and ‘Experts’ have done us no favours.

Note: If you can ransom it, you can destroy it. As we will see over the coming weeks, resolving a global, regional and national incident takes time, more than money.
