US and UK banking regulators have been calling meetings with their Systemically Important Banks to discuss the concerns that the latest iteration of Anthropics AI, Mythos. However, it appears that EU regulators have been left out in the cold by Anthropics limited release of Mythos to trusted partners, all headquartered in the US.
It raises many questions about collaboration between US and EU partners, more concerning given the connected nature of systemically important banks, and the effects on the global banking system, should one of these banks fail due to a significant cybersecurity attack.
The power of AI is being demonstrated daily as models learn and advance. One wonders if AI model and infrastructure developers have a responsibility to bring nation-states together for the responsible use of AI and AI governance. As they will be unable to control the impact of rogue AI on those that devlop and consume AI.
Yoshua Bengio, of the Université de Montréal and one of the three godfathers of AI, told POLITICO it was “deeply concerning†that it’s up to tech companies — rather than regulators — to decide how to handle the risks. It showed how “essential†it was to set up ways for governments or third parties to run checks on the technology “to protect the public,†he added.Â
Just as Cybersecurity is National Security, AI is evolving at a pace that it to will play a pivotal role in National Security.
