What Value do executive recruiters add in helping organisations recruit the best talent?

I know there are similar thread to this out there, I thought I’d add my own. Now I may be biased but the answer as far as I’m concerns is Zero. In the UK we have a saying, those that can do those that can’t go into recruitment. Sorry guys, for all you recruiters out there. But I can’t come to terms with an industry that can take 25-35 % of a very high salary for doing little more than filtering CV’s.

Now I know most will say that they interview candidate and sift the good ones down. But lets be honest, if someone is going for a leadership role, they usually have a good track record by the time they get to the point that they are applying to become the CEO of a FTSE 250. they haven’t been successful without gaining a little experience and delivered.

Also if the industry is so good why do between 40 and 60% of senior hires fail. I’ve met quite a few recently and to a ‘T’, none of them have impressed me, or come across as knowing allot about the industry their recruiting for. Is it me, or am I meeting the wrong people.

Does this also add to the poor quality of leaders in companies, are the wrong candidates getting the wrong jobs A failure rate of 40% – 60% would suggest they are. Let’s face it who wouldn’t want a job that pays 35% of a final salary for sifting CV’s (sorry completing in depth physiological profiling of candidates)

Discuss.
