When are black swan events not black swan events?

When are black swan events not black swan events? When they are no longer so far down the tail that they become the norm. Are cyber-attacks now part of the norm, are they risks we should all understand and plan for. Of course they are.

Cyber risks in general are no longer outliers for anyone, governments, organisations or individuals. Specific incidents maybe, but that’s no different to a house fire. Houses burn down, so do businesses for that matter, but it’s a very rare occurrence. It doesn’t mean we don’t prepare for them. Switch off the gas, turn off the electricity and fit smoke alarms. Cyber is really no different.

We just need to all learn what we should do to protect ourselves and our personal information appropriately, governments, organisations and individuals alike. Cyber in my view is no longer a black swan event, it’s not even grey.
