Yesterday I published an article from the WSJ on the need for Western governments to harmonise cybersecurity regulation. This is why the U.S, EU and UK should be concerned about cybersecurity harmonisation.

Since Australian’s suffered significant cyber attacks on Critical National Infrastructure earlier this year. The Australian government has moved to address cybersecurity regulation at a pace that leaves the U.S, EU and UK only just visible in the rear view mirror. But it’s not just regulation that should be of concern for their allies, its standards. Australia’s Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) manages the countries NIST based cyber security manual. A manual that sets the basic cybersecurity standards to be adopted by the Australian government and organisations for the past 2 years.

My post yesterday discussed the need to harmonise cybersecurity across U.S partner nations. With the Australian government making very fast progress towards cyber regulation, enforcement and board ownership. There is a need to ensure that harmonisation of cybersecurity policy, standards and delivery takes place. In my opinion Australia is taking a lead role and accelerating at an astonishing pace and those organisations wishing to trade with Australia should take note. One hopes that they can address regulatory oversight and delivery.

It’s why we advise, write and deliver on cyber risk management strategy, governance and attestation programs for boards and their organisations.
