What an interesting week for AI. Have we seen our first systemic AI risk play out across global markets? The past week, we’ve watched the AI phenomenon that is Clawdbot, now renamed Miltbot, take off with unprecedented speed. The stars aligned for Miltbot as the product offers to provide users with an AI platform that coordinates their socials, calendars, and communications through its AI platform.

Its stratospheric rise has raised serious concerns about the use of AI and cybersecurity. The problem for users is that it requires a level of persistent access to users’ accounts and systems that any reasonable security professional would prevent. As this article explains, users have walked into the AI bubble without a clear understanding of the implications of using the platform, what they are giving the agent access to, and the level of access they are providing to the tool and their systems.

By giving the bot access to infrastructure and sensitive data, users have unexpectedly opened up all their crown jewels for interrogation by a powerful AI agent. The App has created a single persistent source of user credentials, sensitive and private data, and wrapped it with an AI engine that is capable of interrogation and reasoning.

Has Moltbot opened up a ‘whole can of whoop-ass for AI’, has it created a ‘Black Swan’ risk, with the purpose of supporting users coordinate their social activity, while giving away credentials and systems access to an AI agent.

What will insurers do if the attack surface created by Moltbot is weaponised? What will they do if you make a claim, but it’s because you gave an AI agent system-level access, access to critical applications and payments information?
