UK courts again pick up on the use of AI in the creation of legal papers. In an appear ruling by the UK Intellectual Property Office, the appointed person overseeing an appeal pointed out numerous errors in citations. The litigant admitted that his case had been drafted with the help of AI.
The ruling cited the Ayinde case (June 2025), highlighting the mis-use of AI – https://lnkd.in/e2iGxwF5
The  appointed person made it clear in his judgement – ‘… during any appeal to the appointed person are made aware of the risks of using artificial intelligence…..Many litigants-in-person will know little about trade mark law and think that anything generative artificial intelligence creates will be better than they can produce themselves. So a very clear warning needs to be given to make even the most nervous litigant aware of the risks they are taking.’
