The largest Superannuation fund body The Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (https://lnkd.in/eApx5UCt) is seeking regulatory approval to share data, following the recent release of Mythos by Anthropic for testing.
This raises a couple of questions
The first is, why has it taken so long for the association to request to share information? Given the prevalence and severity of cyberattacks, industry bodies and regulators should be sharing as much information as is required to support the protection of their members.
The second. Mythos has been demonstrated to identify software vulnerabilities and, more importantly, to automate the cyber kill chain at a rate that few other models have demonstrated (https://lnkd.in/eg3f42hC). If used by nation-state threat actors, AI models such as Mythos provide a significant risk. Do Superannuation funds have the necessary knowledge, skills, and experience to protect themselves against cyber attacks launched using AI? When it is widely publicised that organisations are underfunded, there are not enough resources across markets to deliver cybersecurity, and boards have invariably ignored cyber risk.
Thirdly. How do superannuation funds ensure that their investments in bonds, equities, and financial markets are protected? As significant investors in financial markets, do they validate cyber compliance of their investments, or impose cyber requirements on boards to change hearts and minds?
Cybersecurity is National Security, AI is Cybersecurity.
