Here’s an issue many will not have considered with CMMC or ITAR compliance: the relationship between ITAR, CUI, and CMMC compliance. ITAR contains CUI, as CUI includes Controlled Technical Information, which is required to be protected under DFARS 252.204-7012.

ITAR-controlled technical data must not be exported or disclosed to unauthorized foreign persons without authorization. So what happens if technical data, that is CUI is accessed by unauthorised people, as it’s managed as a CMMC/ cyber issue rather than an ITAR issue? If you cannot secure CUI for CMMC, can you therefore guarantee the security of CUI for ITAR.
