This will be one to watch as GCHQ sets out plans to develop a UK National AI Shield. The plan is to use Ai agents to detect threats to Critical National Infrastructure.

Anne Keast-Butler, the Head of GCHQ, highlighted the threat that Cyber and AI pose to UK National Security, economic, and corporate security. AI is accelerating the cyber threat, increasing the risk to UK corporate security, driven by nation-state threat actors from Russia, China, and Iran at scale.

The question for the UK government is: does it move up or down the Kill Chain, filtering out threats as they cross into the UK at the country’s borders, or provide solutions to protect CNI providers at the edge of their networks? UK industry needs a national cyber strategy that enforces cybersecurity compliance, following the approach adopted by partner nations.
