The banks are all being asked to secure their use of AI; regulators such as the ECB, Federal Reserve, and Bank of England are requesting covered companies to speak and speed up work to protect their systems over the very real concerns that AI presents to the financial system.
So if the enclosed article is remotely correct, given what we know about security and AI adoption, why are companies enabling AI agents to go anywhere near production data? Least of all, due to the issues that it creates for data security.
The uncomfortable reality is that a lot of teams deploying multi-agent systems today are operating them with less visibility than they had for microservices 10 years ago. They’re trusting outputs without fully understanding the path that produced them.
AI is a system that has the ability to act semi-autonomously and with all the will in the world. If you integrate the AI system into your own business systems, then you create new processes that are underpinned by a system that you have little or no control over.
Regulators are concerned for a reason, and it’s not because they want to spoil the party. It is because it is very hard to wind back an organisation’s systems once changes are made to it, least of all changes that no one is tracking.
