AI is not just creating a cybersecurity issue; it’s accelerating the issues that companies already face with cybersecurity. The general lack of cybersecurity maturity, underinvestment, lack of knowledge, skills, and experience from the boardroom down through organisations to the shop floor has created a cyber compliance gap that AI will exploit.
AI in or itself is accelerating the need for organisations to implement defensive cyber, required to combat what is being described as an AI-driven cyber arms race. The breadth and depth of cyber defense that is not just driven by products and services requires both a cultural shift and clear governance oversight and assurance of cyber risk across the whole organisation. No amount of cyber technology is going to mitigate AI-driven cyber; it has not worked so far, so why will it work when the pace of change increases?
Cyber requires a fundamental change in corporate strategy, governance, oversight, and assurance driven by boards and executive committees across the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd lines.
