This is the paradigm through which AI should be viewed, and it’s one that the manufacturing industry adopted 50 years ago through Lean and Six Sigma. But it only works if we can resolve the truth and trust gap that AI is currently creating.

Once AI can demonstrate truth and trust for complex processes, then it is likely that it can free up valuable time for functions such as Legal and Audit. Allowing professionals to focus on adding value. AI, as with Lean and Six Sigma, will reduce processing waste and inefficiencies.

However, AI today doesn’t consume all the data required to make accurate decisions, hence it hallucinates. For functions such as Legal and Audit, the tacit knowledge, skills, and experience used by professionals remain locked inside the brains of lawyers and auditors. It presents a wealth of information that, if unlocked, can enable professionals to undertake more work, not less.

When one considers the knowledge gap that exists with organisations that have to comply with cybersecurity regulations, one can see a very clear path forward for AI. Cyber regulations such as EU NIS 2, DORA, US DoD CMMC, and NYDFS require covered companies to demonstrate Governance, Oversight, and Assurance of cybersecurity risks. Yet there are not enough cyber, audit, and legal resources available to accommodate the significant number of companies that must comply.

This presents a gap that can be addressed by AI. Creating more work and opportunities for professionals, not less.
