A survey from the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) on EU-wide investment in NIS2 compliance. The report makes for an important and yet sobering read. While it is always difficult to recognise answers given in surveys, especially at such an aggregated level, the survey asks some very interesting and pertinent questions about EU IT and cybersecurity compliance under NIS2.

The report highlights the challenges and opportunities ahead for NIS 2 compliance. Cyber spend is still grossly underestimated; there aren’t enough skilled cyber resources to manage compliance, the skills gap is widening, challenges with retention rates of cyber staff, and requirements for a broad range of cyber skills by most countries.

With the need to implement board governance of cyber risk management, do companies have the necessary resources and skills to ensure that the board and executive provide appropriate oversight and assurance of NIS2?
