EU NIS2 became law in Sweden on the 15th January 2026, following its progression through the Swedish Parliament. Having read the translation of the Swedish Act Issued on 11 December 2025, it is a faithful translation of the original Directive.

Now the hard work begins as the translation demonstrates the challenges ahead for those organisations covered by the Act and requirements to implement governance, oversight, and assurance over cybersecurity for the CNI providers that the Act covers. For those organisations whose head office is not located in Sweden but provides a covered service in Sweden, the Act makes provisions for them to provide local representation.

Liz Sandwith CFIIA, one notes the provision to carry out regular safety audits and targeted security audits of essential operators to assure compliance with a risk-based approach for cybersecurity.

The Swedish Act also includes provisions to prohibit official persons (Management) from holding office if the regulator deems failures in meeting the Act to be serious and negligent.
