Thank you, Rachel V. Rose, JD, MBA, for posting. AI will make a difference and create significant change in how we live our lives. However, as one remembers from my Six Sigma days, making a poor process quicker, with little understanding, only makes a process more efficient at producing crap.

AI amplifies this; it creates a generation that believes in what it is being told, without questioning the underlying data or the result. AI cannot replace knowledge, skills, or experience.

Tom McLeod, as you have espoused many times, and to quote the recent MIT report
‘Large language models seem simple—you can give them instructions in plain language, after all. But it takes expertise and experimentation to embed them in business workflows.’

One recently spent 2 weeks re-validating the output from AI to ‘correct’ it. To avoid oversight, assurance, and ultimately legal issues that false information would create for cyber audit and regulatory compliance.

Today’s LLMs are full of General Data. The problem with General data is that it answers general questions. In the case of cyber and audit, resolving complex questions requires domain-specific knowledge and experience. LLMs have not consumed enough ‘quality’ information, simply because there’s not enough ‘quality’ information available to consume. The same can be said for the legal profession.

Don’t expect AI to resolve cybersecurity risk anytime soon.
