It wasn’t me governor, it was him’. As Israel demonstrates the real world impact of using cyber as a domain of operation, in the event of war. The Israelis went for the soft underbelly of Iranian society, where the most damage can be done to the civilian (and military) population.

One cannot ignore the level of pre-planning and likely pre-positioning that went on prior to the recent engagement between Iran and Israel. But it feels like the cyber war was a little one sided, with Israel targeting Iranian banks and crypto, wiping hardware. With Iranian hackers launching DDoS attacks.

It’s an unfortunate fact that our reliance on digital has consequences. As Iranians use crypto as an intermediary between local currencies, and international trade. One is concerned that many public and private sector organisations globally do not have the necessary plan’s in place to manage a cyber attack. Or they do not know how good their plans are, until they have been truly tested.

In kinetic warfare the saying goes ‘No plan survives first contact with the enemy’. What do you do when you have almost no battle plan at all. Or the the game changes from asset theft and ransom, to asset destruction.
