If true then this is what happens when your motives are not financial. It’s a simple code change that changes the outcome from ‘encrypt data’ to ‘run a complete wipe of a systems data’. If you can break into an organisation then you can wipe data, not just encrypt it.

If the attackers got to the back-ups, then to coin a phrase, you’re buggered.
