Olaf Classen thank you for posting, this article should be read by everyone. It is a warts and all demonstration of what happens to a company in the event of a cyber attack. Forget the Marks and Spencer hype. This company Fasana in Stotzheim filed for insolvency in less than a month, following a cyber attack that took place in May 2025. A company that had been trading 100 years, employed 240 people and brought to a stop in less than 2 days.

The attack is a demonstration of the effect of a cyber attack in our digitally dependent world. It demonstrates the effects of a cyber attack on an organisation, that by all accounts is unlikely to have implemented cybersecurity risk management, or had a cyber insurance policy.
Nothing worked anymore, a Fasana employee told this newspaper. All computer systems, laptops, and PCs were battered, and production was no longer an option. Only the orders still stored in the machines could be executed.
The attack not only affected production and revenue, it affected payroll.
We often discus cybersecurity in light of big companies such as Marks and Spencer, or MGM, or UnitedHealth Group. But society is not facing up to the 99.9% problem, 99.9% of organisations are like Fasana in Stotzheim that are SMEs. That do not or cannot manage cyber risk. Market forces have failed them and the consequences are clear. If the big boys find it difficult to manage cyber, what about the small ones?
What about directors fiduciary responsibility to manage risk………….
