One supports the need for cybersecurity across the UK public and private sector. But one is concerned when one hears about the use of voluntary charters. We have moved well beyond the approach that supports ‘voluntary’ in cybersecurity, its does not work, market forces have failed to address the cyber issues we face. One only has to look at the adoption of cybersecurity in the U.S and EU to understand that a stronger approach is needed. The UK public sector needs regulation and real funding to address cyber security. Polite, voluntary approaches do not work; when your adversary ranges from school kids to nation states; when you can choose to adopt cyber or not; when you cannot afford cyber. The UK public sector needs help, support and above all investment in cyber.Cyber is a threat to national security and the NHS is a national health service. Can we wait for voluntary solutions across critical supply chains, as the US is realising, probably not.https://lnkd.in/ecJDsVD5The cyber debate has moved beyond FUD.
