A great article on the role and affects AI is and will play in the legal profession. AI is seen as the biggest transformative technology to affect the profession. But it comes with plenty of caveats, least of all the outputs from several recent legal cases in the the US, Australia and UK. Demonstrating AIs ability to hallucinate and lawyers abilities to trust AI output. In each case putting the lawyers in hot water with judges and demonstrating the risks GenAI causes if left unchecked. There’s no mistaking the power of AI to undertake complex data analytics across large data sets, quickly. Something that cannot be done by legal juniors with the same efficiency, productivity or speed of AI, ‘you don’t hire a top lawyer to do the docs , you hire them for advice and experience’ and that’s the power AI brings to knowledge industries, such as internal audit.AI frees experienced and skilled resources to focus on ‘value-added’ activities, and more of them. AI undertakes high volume low value work, in the case of law it enables rapid legal search, document review and e-discovery, contract analysis, drafting and document creation. Activities that you do not want to consume the billable hours of an expensive lawyer on, rather you leave it to a junior. With the obvious benefit that time saved on one case, means more cases can be added to the caseload. A paradigm that can be applied to all knowledge industries, if applied correctly and governed appropriately.@Thaddeus Dziekanowski Brian D. McCarthy Faisal Khan M. Ali F. Khan Rachel V.
