A great article that lays out the challenges AI faces delivering benefits to corporate users. Research finds that 88% of observed Proof of Concepts (POC) dont make it to production. A conversation rate that raises a few observations about the how AI is being developed and consumed within organisations.Firstly AI is not an IT tool, its a business tool. AI should be used by the business to improve cost, quality and delivery of an organisations products and services; AI is a high risk tool, by that one means that it relies on the use of an organisations data and data consumed from LLMs outside of the organisation; The adoption of AI therefore requires careful consideration for governance, risk and security of data; The output from AI has to be considered in the first instance with a ‘pinch of salt’, model hallucinations are real; The evaluation of the business case and RoI for AI is no different to any other project, with one caveat. The caveat being that AI is a high risk tool today that requires clear management over governance, risk and security, more so that many other projects. Why, because AI is is being used to make real world decisions on the data that it is provided with, decisions that may go unchecked (otherwise why use AI?).Using AI to tell you how to boil and egg is one thing, using AI for brain surgery is different. Brain surgery requires machine learning and a little more knowledge, skill and experience.@Thaddeus Dziekanowski Brian D.
