Australia makes more of a public show of its cybersecurity incidents than many countries. Over the past few weeks Australian IVF clinic Genea announced that it has been hacked. Exposing the PII of patients, taking phone systems off line, and impacting patient services. https://lnkd.in/epXgvauBWhile it’s admirable to seek an injunction against the hackers that stole the data, other than following the motions and registering the hack and its effects. Its not going to do anything to bring resolution to the incident.“I actually laughed when I saw that it’s directed to ‘persons unknown’. It’s basically an injunction to the world and they’re saying they can contact them if they want.Hack such as this strengthen the resolve to find a solution. The EU has moved to regulate cybersecurity under a range of acts and directives that are now enforce. The US SEC has followed a similar approach, and the HHS has recently proposed cyber regulations to update HIPAA, with senators proposing criminal penalties against corporate boards for failing to manage healthcare cybersecurity. Actions that to a degree are driving change, albeit slowly, across covered companies from CNI to Financial Services.@Thaddeus Dziekanowski Brian D. McCarthy Faisal Khan Rachel V.
