A subject that is close to my heart. I started my career at Rolls Royce PLC more years ago that I care to remember. Leading SQC, SPC, Six Sigma, Lean and Kaizen for Turbine Blade Manufacturing. You can never master the art of Kaizen. By its very definition, Kaizen, is continuous improvement and mastering the art implies you have reached perfection, and that’s not attainable (yes I’m splitting hairs here). However, we should be concerned. Continuous improvement is ultimately about moving towards 6 sigma, and 6 sigma is about aiming to achieve a reduction in variability down to natural, controllable variability of processes of less than 1% (3.4 defects per million). That’s heading towards a state of zero defects and certainty and control over processes. AKA, in layman’s speak, what goes into a process, comes out repeatably 99.999999% of the time. This is why we should be worried. If China has ‘mastered’ kaizen, then it means that the efficiency and productivity of their product design, manufacturing and operations processes is very high. Maybe a reason why, amongst other things, China is capable of producing so many weapon systems. In the case of AI, if China has mastered Kaizen then their LLMs would be heading toward perfect with no hallucinations. They would achieve a near perfect response to questioning. Depending of course on your definition of perfection.@Thaddeus Dziekanowski Brian D.
