A wake up call maybe, a catastrophic crash of market no, a cause for rethinking quite possibly. One has to ask a few question about the recent announcements about DeekSeek. An announcement coming 2 weeks after the UK government announced that AI would unleash a decade of national renewal, the US president announced a massive injection of capital to drive growth and the UAE is pumping cash into AI Saudi.Did we see the market correction that everyone as talked about, or a collapse of the big tech players? One thinks it’s more of a correction and within a couple of weeks markets will be rushing back to tech. As for DeepSeek and learning, those that have tried it raise concerns about the quality of the output, hallucinations and state control. However DeepSeek raises questions about the future direction of AI and model learning.Are Gen-AI models the way forward or is there a role for domain specific LLMs and reasoning? Domain specific knowledge, learning and reasoning reduces the processing needed to reach a conclusion.
