Call us now:
Why the kinetic battlefield is no a problem for NATO as it relates to Russia, but the logical battlefield is. A kinetic war will likely be to costly for Russia, and NATO if there were ever to be a war. One must remember if you can ransom and organisation, you can all destroy its IT infrastructure.
Russia’s hackers have proven themself rather adept at targeting critical infrastructure, of all shapes and sizes across the U.S and EU. Infrastructure that we would not have considered critical until it was hacked, and taken off line. Take the recent hacks against United Health, and CDK. In both cases companies were hacked and caused considerable harm to the U.S economy for a short period of time. Or the hack against the NHS third party supplier Synnovis, that messed up NHS hospitals in London.
These are cases of well planned attacks, focused on key points of failure aimed at maximizing disruption for little effort. Knowing that many, most, Western organisations have poor cybersecurity maturity and do not have the necessary knowledge, skills and experience to defend themselves against threat actors. As was repeated in a recent congressional committee about Chinese threat actors. What make one think that there’s not a list of targets sitting in the top draw of the FSB or MSS.
“What Russian cyber operatives are doing now is testing weaknesses within cyber security systems, planting malware, finding out where and how to attack without doing it now,†he said. “They’ll wait for the big day when they need them.â€
