If correct and the company at the center of the deepfake payment of £20mn, was the UK engineering firm Arup. It raises several concerns for the company. Arup is a UK multinational with 90 offices spread over 35 offices. In 2023 its annual accounts showed a profit to year end of £26mn.
If indeed £20mn was paid as part of the deepfake scam, then the company wiped out most of its 2023 profits through a payment error. As a company owned by its employees, the payment error will be felt by those whose hard work and efforts helped generate the annual revenues for 2023.
One raises an obvious question as to how any single individual is allowed to make such significant payment and segregation of duties for payments?
