Cybersecurity risks are complex risks to manage. It’s complexities reach out across supply chains and one suspects that these complexities are exposed between clients contractors and subcontractors and will flow through contracts and the roles and responsibilities between clients and MSPs for securing data.

This case maybe one to watch. Customers of a Main-based IT and accounting consultancy are suing the firm for negligence, unjust enrichment and breach of fiduciary duty following a data theft. While the IT and accounting consultancy is blaming it’s MSP for the data breach.

‘or if a contract between the two parties stipulated that Reliable was responsible for BerryDunn’s cybersecurity protection. It’s not clear if there was a contract. Reliable said it was hired to manage BerryDunn’s healthcare data but not to provide cybersecurity protection.’

The complexities of the relationship between customers, suppliers, contractors and subcontractors will be tested.
