U.S Private equity firm Thoma Bravo has bought Darktrace for $5.32billion, offering a 44% premium on Darktrace’s three month average. One suspects, given the reported challenges at Darktrace of culture and market focus, the PE house sees opportunities to develop the brand and products. The undervalued brand, with a little TLC, proves an opportunity to upsell the product to a trade buyer.
The cyber solutions market has been suffering recently with layoffs, an overcrowded product market and a clear lack of understanding of the need to manage cybersecurity by many firms. That has led to cyber regulations in the U.S and EU. Regulations that can only benefit solution providers that can demonstrate they can keep board members of covered companies away from civil and criminal penalties.
