As national security issues go, the threat from nation state cyber attackers is not going anywhere other than up. Especially when one considers the cyber maturity of the public and private sectors, it’s not casting FUD to say that cyber possess a significant risk to national and economic security.

‘The US has been tracking Chinese pre-positioning operations for well over a decade, but Wray told the security conference that they had reached “fever pitch”. He said China was increasingly inserting “offensive weapons within our critical infrastructure poised to attack whenever Beijing decides the time is right”’.

The question is are we fighting this war with the tools we used to fight the last one. If as is mentioned, nation states are pre-positioning themselves across the vast attack surface that is public and private sector digital infrastructure.

What is our defensive cyber strategy? There are few options on the table and the attack surface is significant, how do you secure it all?
