Nation state threat actors present a real and systemic threat to national security (not my words, but those mentioned several time over the past 12 months by several national security chiefs).

National, economic and societal security and the influence of cybersecurity is a very real and present concern Ted Dziekanowski. One that most countries are ill prepared to deal with. As was recently discussed in a UK Parliamentary report on UK cyber in December 2023, and one driver for U.S and EU regulators to regulate cybersecurity risk management.

One suspects that by the time the message gets discussed in congress the threat is already serious Bob Dix. What makes it more concerning is that one is aware that cyber is a challenging subject for most public and private sector firms to deal with, as Olaf Classen can demonstrate with his comments on the number of cyber attacks in Germany. The effects of cyber in the U.S are so severe that the FBI and DoJ announced that they were granted legal authorization to started offensive cyber operations against Chinese Hackers, that will be national and proxy threat actors.

The public and private sector needs to focus on solutions to the cyber problem. However as the recent FT report ‘The Great Board reboot’, and a recent Heidrick and Struggles board report are any indication, there is a way to go before firms get to grips with the realities of cybersecurity risk management.

You do not go and present to congress with FUD.
