Two U.S Congressional Committees are reviewing the Swedish-Swiss engineering Group ABB, investigating security threats and risks posed China. ABB sells control and electrification equipment to Chinese companies, which sells cranes directly to U.S ports. ABB released a statement on Friday that it had received a letter from the chairs of US House of Representative Committees on homeland security and China, after ABBs did not provided sufficient responses to request for information in July 2023. As the U.S is one of ABB’s biggest markets, one suspects that this conversation will not end any time soon.

The pressure is mounting on companies supplying the U.S, that have trading links with China, to disclose their links and address security concerns. In 2023 an investigation into controls equipment manufacturer Rockwell was started, when it was announced that the company uses Chinese based product development facilities (https://lnkd.in/e7JbGTs2). Raising concerns of the exposure of critical U.S infrastructure to serious cyber attacks by another nation state. Johnson Control was hacked in late 2023, with the theft of over 20 Tb of data highlighting the vulnerabilities of another control company that services U.S critical infrastructure.

All demonstrating the threat that cybersecuirty, risk management pose to national security and the role cyber plays in international trade.
