Australia is following suit with cyber regulations similar to the SEC cyber rule, NYDFS and EU NIS 2. In requiring boards attest to their organisation cybersecurity risk management program, or face penalties. Coming at the same time Australia is dealing with a major cyber incident against its port infrastructure that remains unresolved.

“Telcos should be held to at least the same standards as other critical infrastructure. Our telcos must be prepared for major vulnerabilities, have risk management plans in place, and build backups to maintain essential services when things go wrong.” (Clair O’Neil)

Australia is not alone in having to address CNI cybersecurity, as the EU and U.S are also regulating cybersecurity risk management. The country and its private sector face the same problem. while there is talk about organizations signing off on cybersecuirty risks, many do not understand the challenges ahead in identifying and mitigating cyber risks.

Moving ‘Left of Bang’ is complex, expensive, time consuming and resource intensive.
