The problem with SME cyber is the effect it not only has on small business, but the problem it has for large business supply chain security. We’ve long discussed the 99% problem (https://lnkd.in/dYjWv8-5), that is both the challenge that small business has with managing cybersecurity risks, but also the effect that small business cyber has on supply chains.
The issue firms regulated to manage cybersecurity will have is that they have to attest to supply chain cybersecurity. Pushing the burden of cyber risk management down onto small businesses whether they like it, or prepared for it.
The ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales), as the UK professional body for the accounting profession, rightly raises concerns that cyber is a small business problem. More so for those firms trading with or in the EU or U.S as cyber regulation drives forward at pace.
