The effects of cyber seem to get just about everywhere, and the travel industry is no exception. Automation is a big deal for the industry from airlines, through hotels and resorts, as we have seen recently with MGM and Caesars entertainment. When things go wrong, they can go wrong in a big way and they don’t have to be just cyber, as the BA outage earlier this year demonstrated. An IT glitch can bring things to a stop, as much as a targeted cyber event. Unfortunately for those covered entities an IT outage or a cyber attack can now be reportable to the SEC under the same reporting definition. Leading to consequences that have not been tested, but soon will be.
