The law firm Dentons has decided to hive off its Chinese operations in response to intensifying regulation in China. China recently introduced regulations relating to data privacy cybersecurity, capital control and governance. Regulations that increasing blur the lines between corporate data and information, and that considered by the CCP to be relevant to national security. Along with harsh penalties for those found to have shared information important to national security, data that that can be subjective in nature.

As the FT article points out, Dentons is not the only company looking to extract itself from China. One wonders if the ‘Chinese walls’ are going to be a good think or bad thing, its a long game being played.
