Dan Lohrmann, a problem with cyber certifications is they are assessed at a single point in time, they are created and certified by bodies that themselves are not necessarily authorised and accredited by a governing body, like auditors or accountants and they have been seen as setting an appropriate standard, that is difficult to maintain. Recruiters also see them as a requirement for roles, that is not the case. A CISO requires no professional accreditation, yet they hold the security of an organisations financial statements in their hands.

Roles such as CFO, General Counsel, HR, Audit, Doctor and Engineer require accrediation from a professional body for a reason.

But cyber certifications are do set a baseline entry requirement for cyber professionals.

The better way is much simpler. The approach has been written for lawyers, doctors, engineers, accountants, auditors. Accredite cyber through a professional body that requires CPD, examination, Interview. As an assessor for Chartered Security. I had to demonstrate knowledge. experience, undergoe a professional examination and Interview.
