The hack on Australian law firm HWL Ebsworth highlights the challenges both firms and their clints face with data theft. Law firms hold the most sensitive personal information of their clients, be that personal or corporate data. Data that is not for public consumption.

In this case not only private personal information but sensitive government data of the Victorian government. Ironically it is likely to include data from the Office of the Australian Information Commissionaire. One is not sure an injunction against the hackers is going to work.

The attacks demonstrates that when you target the ‘single point of failure’, the opportunity to cause damage is magnified many times.
