We speak about the focus of U.S and EU regulators on cybersecurity risk management. We can now add a significant regulator to that conversation, as the U.S Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CTFC) Division of Enforcement has announced the creation of a cybersecurity and emerging technologies task force.

The CTFC is an independent U.S. government agency regulating derivatives markets, including futures, options, and swaps. A financial market that if it were to fail, would cause the likely collapse in financial markets and systemic risk to many industries. (https://lnkd.in/e38zY6qr, https://lnkd.in/eTMD_xqS).

It is therefore important to recognise the CFTC is addressing cybersecurity, including ensuring registrants have sufficient cybersecurity controls. It is a further example of a U.S government agency addressing the cybersecurity of covered markets.
