Call us now:
A very interesting watch. On the 16th May the Energy and Commerce’s subcommittee on oversight and investigation met to discuss cyber attacks and their effects on U.S critical national Infrastructure. To get a better understanding of the cyber threats to CNI and what needs to be done to manage U.S CNI cyber. CNI that includes energy, water, transport, health, chemicals, agriculture, manufacturing and logistics. The figures of attacks on CNI are important, of the 2385 reported ransomware attacks in 2022, 870 were on CNI. One suspects this is under reported.
There is allot to unpick, but there is no doubt that U.S CNI is at threat and there is a way to go before cyber risk is being managed at an appropriate level. The message from across water, energy and healthcare is clear, cyber is an significant issue, and presents a considerable effects to society. No energy, no water, no healthcare.
There was talk of what each sector is doing to support Federal and state CNI providers with guidance, tools and training. Congressman Duncan (1:24) gave a clear message about the use of domestic supply chain for U.S infrastructure, AI and the cybersecurity of renewable energy. Congresswoman Cammack dug into healthcare cyber (1:75), in response a guide to improve cybersecurity, better communications and the FDAs medical device security regulation will be used to manage cyber.
Congressman Crenshaw (2:13) gave robust challenge on healthcare and energy.
One suspects that there will be more CNI cyber regulation, similar to that adopted by the EU under NIS 2.0 and the EU CRA. To enforce cyber compliance and coordinate CNI cyber.
One doubts that the message from this committee would be any different for any Government? A whole of government approach is required.
Ted Dziekanowski, Congressman Ruiz (1:43) raised the concern of a shortage of cyber resources in the U.S. You have delivered cyber education for many U.S CNI providers, on expects that you will be kept busy.
