A very interesting update by SEC Commissioner Jaime Lizarraga on cybersecurity. Discussing the effects of cyber security on financial stability and the recently released proposed SEC cybersecuirty risk management regulations.

The remarks heavily reference Sarbanes Oxley and the role of the board in the oversight, assurance and disclosure of material risks. Material risks that include cyber.

Drawing on one statement ‘I€„¢m optimistic that the Commission€„¢s updated cybersecurity rules will result in market participants taking the necessary and reasonable steps to protect their information systems from cybersecurity risks. In light of the important benefits to investors and to market confidence and integrity, pursuing a robust cybersecurity regime that covers all SEC registrants would best fulfill our mission to promote fair, efficient, and orderly markets and protect investors.’

Ted Dziekanowski, one could draw a reasonable conclusion that the proposed cybersecurity risk management regulation is due. It would appear from his remarks that Commissioner Jaime Lizarraga seem to be in favor of a cybersecurity risk management proposal?
