The New U.S Ambassador is making it clear that he believes that cyber and digital policy is key, as the country positions itself as leading regulatory voice on technology and cyber policy.
Nathaniel Fick, the U.S. ambassador at large for cyberspace and digital policy, said that it must be a priority for the U.S. government “to strengthen American foreign policy on technology topics,†particularly as these issues take on more of a leading role in international affairs.’
Cybersecurity is a domain in which the U.S has traditional taken a lead, and recent cyber attacks, that have lead to increased cyber regulation as a tool to facilitate cyber adoption. With the ONCD cyber strategy out soon and SEC cyber proposal are not expected to change this.
One expects the U.S to take an active lead on collaborating with partner nations to set cyber policy, both nationally and internationally. As the Ambassador at large starts to address the impact of U.S national and international cyber and technology policy on relations with its allies.
We have said several times that cybersecurity policy and regulations can have a profound impact on national and international relationships. As both the U.S and EU develop cyber regulations to protect the security of their public and private sectors, there needs to be careful consideration of the impact on organisations trading in and with both jurisdictions.
