Cybersecurity regulation creates a pipeline for cybersecurity advisors to the board and board committees of public and private sector organisations. Committees that includes the Audit Committee.

Regulations that include EU NIS 2.0 and the SEC cyber proposal impose requirements for independent assurance of cyber compliance and increase board members legal risks. One expects that as board members are held accountable and responsible for cybersecurity risk management, they will look to Internal audit for compliance assurance. Audit committee chairs will need to ensure they have the appropriate committee composition to address the oversight and assurance of cybersecurity risk management, ahead of regulatory reporting.
