The Cybersecurity of suppliers to public and private sectors firms across Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) is becoming an issue. +95% of firms across Western Economies are SMEs, they are the firms the larger CNI providers rely to provide products and services. They are also the firms that are the least likely to afford cybersecurity or cyber insurance.

U.S and EU regulators are moving to implement cybersecurity risk management regulations across a broad range of CNI providers. The EU NIS 2 focuses specifically on CNI cybersecurity, the cybersecurity supply chains risks of CNI providers. The widely expected ONCD cyber strategy is expected to push for more cybersecurity regulation to address cybersecurity risk management across U.S public and private sector organisations.
