We’ve seen a rise in the number of hacks against UK companies discussed on media channels over the past 6 weeks. The UK has always been a target for Nation State threat actors, its always not been that big a target. But that seems to be changing, seen through the rise in the number of UK firms appearing on dark web channels as successful targets, primarily of ransomware attacks. As recently as yesterday a LockBit announced that a UK electronics manufacturer was ransomed.
The recent announcement that the UK is sending Battle Tanks to Ukraine will intensify the focus of hackers on UK firms. Where we have seen maybe 1 or maybe 2 UK firms hacked a week. That’s turning into 1 a day, and does not include the individuals being targeted or the selective filtering by the hacking groups. It’s not big numbers, but we know that the U.S and EU are regulating Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) for a reason.
