The challenges with assessing and predicating risks is that we’re invariably looking in the rear view to decide what the road ahead looks like, and trying to guess which are the most important risks alongside all of the others. Cyber risk is no different, except that the picture in the rear view mirror seems to change very quickly.

Cyber has rightly been overtake over the past couple of years by other big global risks including the cost of living crisis, climate change and geopolitical tensions. Risks that are very visible and front and center. Cyber risks have not been as visible on the international stage as other risk, had the same attention and there’s been little clarity around how to address the problems that cyber brings. The economic and national security impact of cyber is quick and significant and many organisations are un-prepared to manage it.

The conversations at Davos may start to address this. The rear view mirror change again this week as cyber attacks, failures in resilience and cyber regulation come to the fore.
