It’s a privilege to have been recognised as a thought leader in security for a third year by the International Security Journal (ISJ). Some of my predications for 2022 landed, including cyber regulation being a prominent part of security regulation, it has been; Geopolitical cyber being a very real concern, it was with the Ukraine Russian Conflict; ransomware to continue as top threat vector, it has; and 2022 will a significant move of cyber threats into the OT environment and it did.

2023 will be a very interesting year for cyber security. Cyber regulation is a prominent feature of U.S and EU security regulation and 2023 will see some of this land with the SEC proposal, EU NIS 2.0, DORA and the CRA. Creating significant challenges for public and private sector organisations trading in and with the U.S and EU. Corporate boards and CISOs will start to feel the impact of cyber regulation. 2022 saw several precedent setting legal cases including CHS Healthcare, Aerojet Rocketdyne, the Uber CSO trial, Drizly and the Twitter Judicial committee hearing.

2023 will be a year where many companies struggle with cyber risk transfer, as the insurance industry evaluates cyber insurance and its ability to provide effective risk transfer tools. 2023 will be a year where cloud security and the adoption of cloud is called into question by organisations, as there is a realisation that the responsibility for cloud security is shared between cloud providers and their customers.
