A nice article from the HBR and the difference between data regulation, such as GDPR and proposed cyber regulation. Cyber regulations are coming, and organisation will face challenges with identifying and complying with the regulations being proposed. In the U.S the Federal Trade Commission, Food and Drug Administration, Department of Transportation, Department of Energy, Securities and Exchange Commission and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency are all working on new rules.

Work should start now on preparing for the regulations. This includes a review of current cybersecurity maturity, the development and implementation of a cybersecurity risk management framework and corporate governance practices, the implementation of a cybersecurity program and importantly remediating any gaps found in compliance failure.
