NIST Cybersecurity Framework Profile (CSF) 2.0 gets underway with a well attended workshop this week, hosted by NIST. Providing an opportunity for the NIST community to come together and discuss the development of the CSF over the past 9 years and the opportunities for improvements going forward.
The opportunity for CSF should not be underestimated. CISA has created a number of industry specific CSF profile, the RMF, adopted by FISMA, under OMB A130 allows the use of CSF profile for risk mitigation.
Cybersecurity risk management regulation proposals such as that from the SEC, or EU NIS 2.0 or DORA require a a common standard and language for cybersecurity risk mitigation. The CSF profile provides that language. The biggest hurdle is one of adoption, both national and international and one suspects that the regulatory agenda being adopted by various governments will provide a basis for adoption.
